I’ve always had a big imagination. Blame it on being the second child growing up in suburbia or on the fact that we never had the Disney channel on television when I was younger. Either way, Beat Connection’s imaginative lyrics struck a cord within me when I first heard them. As for their sound, well I mean come on, do you expect anything short of electro lovely from me?
My mother has a go-to story for embarrassing me in front of people we’ve just met (you know—a mom story). When I was about 4 years old, we were in a public bathroom. Talking to my mom who was in the next stall over, I described my (fictitious) “real family”. The people that my parents now had taken me away from. I described my “other life” in full detail (huge family, midwestern home, ranch style, a couple of dogs, red station wagon). My laughing mom encouraged me to continue until we walked out of the stalls to find a room full of concerned toilet-goers (or just “goers,” i guess).
I was a weird kid. Eventually I got over my fantastical story telling, but my imagination never left. That’s probably part of the reason why I actually like music so much. Diamondtrak Diamond’s remix of Beat Connection’s track “Silver Screen” possesses that transportive quality that I always admired when I was younger. I used to tell stories and imagine great things when I was younger. Overtime this pastime has transformed into endless day dreaming. When I heard the lyrics of this song excitedly rolling over the thumping electro beat, I was drawn in.
Speaking of a girl who appears to be that of a dream, I can relate. Who doesn’t occasionally have a little fantasy? That mirage of the perfect mystery person that floats through your brain while you stare out the window. I’ve been there, god knows at least once a day. That’s been the cause of countless misspelled words, slammed breaks, and blank stares. Nothing to be ashamed of though—a sentiment that I gather Beat Connection also takes to heart.
Layering their lyrics over a tropical, fresh sound provides for a light track. The beats are infectious and effervescent. They creatively build and drop, hooking the listener by creating a dynamic sound that is a prime example of electro pop. Despite living the land of rain (Seattle) Beat Connection has cultivated a sound that is decidedly summer-y. Making this the perfect track for the upcoming months.
To wrap this up, I figured it was only appropriate to let you into one of my many daydreams: cruising through the Greek Islands I have some sort of lemony cocktail in hand. I’m tan, oh so beautifully tan. My friends are with me, in addition to some other beautiful people, mainly men (men is a key word here) who are doing all sorts of things involving the pulling of ropes, shirtless (naturally). But I digress, the most important thing to note is that this track is thumping throughout this imaginative montage. Perfection.
Okay so maybe I didn’t grow out of that adolescent weirdness I mentioned earlier.
Shit…
