Metaphors and Lots of Death!

Huh. I just…huh. I’m gonna be honest, I’m really confused on what this short is actually about. It’s carrying a lot of…meaning? I think? Grounded, created by Kevin Margo has a lot of…well, visuals, and those look fantastic. Also, space, so sci-fi, so I’m covering it. So there

Look, I’m gonna be flat with you. I have no fucking clue what’s happening in this movie. I have my own theories and speculations, but I’ll just let the creator speak for the work.

“One astronaut’s journey through space and life ends on a hostile exosolar planet. Grounded is a metaphorical account of the experience, inviting unique interpretation and reflection by the viewer. Themes of aging, inheritance, paternal approval, cyclic trajectories, and behaviors passed on through generations are explored against an ethereal backdrop” –The Description on the Vimeo Page

So yeah! There you go. Aging and shit. Listen, I am not a smart person. By any means. I can write words and that’s about it for my usefulness. Whatever meaning this short holds is completely over my head. But damn goddamn, is it pretty as hell to look at.

In terms of straight visual effects, everything just pops and oozes with realism and life. From the parachute ruffling in the wind to the endless field of space grass, it all looks believable as hell and really draws the viewer into the experience.

And it seems I’m not the only one who thinks so. This has one a lot of awards for its effects work, and really is awe-inspiring. Those who worked on this took their time and it paid off.

Hopefully, we’ll be seeing more of Kevin Margo’s work, because it’s not like you can find out anything about it anywhere. What a shame. Welp, bye!
