I Know Exactly What I’d Modify if I Where A Cyborg…

TRUE SKIN from H1 on Vimeo.

Oh my good golly gosh, have I been waiting for another good robot short. Robots, cyborgs, andrioids, automatons, and the like are all just so cool to look at! Not to mention putting them into a good story. Hey, speak of the devil, this week we have True Skin, directed by Stephan Zlotescu, which has both awesome cyborgs and a great story to watch! YAAAY!

First, the robots. Or, I should say, the robot parts. Well, and the robots. So yeah. ROBOTS. They look so damn cool in this, I can’t even begin, but I will because if I don’t then I’ll get yelled at and then they’ll probably not feed me. I haven’t seen the sunlight in years.

Anyway, this is some of the best 3d model tracking on footage that I’ve seen in a while. I’m not sure if they did it the way I think they did (make a 3d model of a robot part then superimpose it onto the person in the frame, tracking it to their movement) or if any of what they did was physical special effects, but damn goddamn did it work well.

That, and the pulp/noir narration that kept the story going was freaking awesome. It’s one thing to have cyborgs running amok, but to show the implications of a completely or near completely cyborg society was pretty terrifying. Like how the “naturals” where basically made up of the homeless and the diseased, and how segregation of those who were natural had reached an alarming level. Kind of, y’ know, really scary. But the narration I thought was really cool. It gave the viewer some introspection on what it’s like to live in this society.

Seriously, a wicked cool movie by Stephan Zlotescu. I really hope he keeps making more, cuz this was awesome.
