A common theme in sci-fi these days is the whole “bleak, regime ruled future” scenario, and as much as I love it, it certainly needs a little spicing up. Thankfully, The Raven, directed by Ricardo de Montreuil has taken this concept and added freaking awesome superpowers!
Personally, I love the stories where the guy or gal who has a unique ability is hunted and/or chastised by the government they live under. Like how Spiderman or Batman are considered vigilantes by their respective law enforcement agencies (NYPD and GCPD). Except that, in this circumstance, it isn’t clear if this guy is a hero or not. He’s on the run, has superpowers, and holy balls, there are jet rocket machine gun death bots coming to put one big damper on his day.
Which I think is interesting, since it seems like a lot of the regime in this short relies heavily on mechanized and robot means of subduing targets/ machinegunning the homeless. Which, and correct me if I’m wrong, I’m fairly certain the LAPD (whoa man, this takes place in LA. MIND. BLOWN.) already has a secret army of robo-cops just frothing at the chance to attack the homeless.
One thing I do wonder though, is this world much like the world of the Play Station 3 game Infamous? Because it seems to have that sort of feel to it. I mean, guy with superpowers is getting hunted by everyone and not getting much help, and has the choice to use his powers for good, evil, and in most cases self defense. I just see a lot of similarities is all.
Anywho, a great short by Ricardo de Montreuil, who I think is making this into a series. Please be making it into a series. PLEASE.
