METRO from Jacob Wyatt on Vimeo.
Holy bejeezum, this is a beautiful animation. Made by Jacob Wyatt, this animation explores a very interesting tale of a fox, a young girl, and a subway system. And not in the bad way, because, y’know, subways are pretty shitty. And not the transit systems, those are fun. The fast food chain has terrible food. So this movie has nothing to do with Subway the food place.
Anyways, just look at it for a minute. Really appreciate the amazing art that this movie is. The stylization is unique and breathtaking, the animation flows seamlessly into each movement and each new frame, the backdrops are incredibly well done, and it’s all put together into a viewing experience that (at least me) left you wanted more. That’s what makes a good short, regular or series of movies: The ability of the piece to draw the viewer in so that they want to see more and experience more.
Along with the art, the story is quite simple. A fox steals a young girls metro ticket, she chases it, it turns out to have a big ol’ mural of tickets from like, the beginning of time made into a beautiful portrait under the subway. Wait, no, that’s not simple. That’s awesome. My mistake, I get those two mixed up a lot. The story is a buildup that leads to a point, then quickly turns it into some thing that the viewer (again, me) didn’t quite expect to see.
However, I would like to issue a warning to those younger readers of this site (if there are any [I submit that there are not {I’m on to you filthy lizard people}]), if a fox steals your ticket and seems to want to lead you through the subway, don’t be a debbie downer and get an adult. Chase that lil’ shit through the magical mystery drains and then steal his collection of tickets. Or wrestle him. Yeah, wrestle him and take his pelt instead. Much better prize to bring home. Make your pappy proud of you; stick some hair on your young and eternally hairless chests.
All in all, a great short by Jacob Wyatt, who I hope will be making more movies soon.
